Redefine Fear and Failure
What would your life look like if fear and failure meant something else?
Instead of fear and failure = bad, what if fear and failure = good?
Okay, you might be a long way from seeing fear and failure as good, so let's try a more neutral equation.
Fear = Your brain trying to keep you safe.
Failure = You're taking action.
Your brain's job is to keep you safe. It wants to keep you away from danger and cozy in a cave. While we've evolved from our caveman days, your brain still sees any sort of risk or change (even good ones) as dangerous and something that should be avoided.
So what do you do when your brain is screaming at you to go back in the cave and not take any risks?
You acknowledge the thoughts. Thank them “warning you” and then proceed to take even the smallest of actions. Remind yourself that being scared is normal, and is usually a sign that something is really important to you.
Your brain also doesn't want you to fail. Totally normal. Who would say they WANT to fail?
Actually, I'll raise my hand, and here's why:
Failure means you're trying. You're taking action.
You're learning. You're able to pivot and try the next thing.
Failure builds confidence and helps you gain the clarity that you're looking for in your life and in your career.
There are no mistakes. Only lessons.
You might be asking yourself, “what if I fail?" but today, I'm challenging you to ask yourself “WHAT IF I SUCCEED?”
What does success look like? What does it feel like? How will it change your life?
I help women live in THIS space. Sure, we tackle all the messy fears that come up, but we don't stop.
We keep going.
Because being courageous is taking action despite your fears.
